FRIENDS
of
ACTION MEDICAL RESEARCH

this Literary Lunch to held at the Cavalry and Guards Club will held contribute to the charity’s excellent work

to tell you a little about Action Medical Research –
Action Medical Research is the UK’s most forward thinking charity. AMR believes that diseases and disabilities can be beaten, and through medical research we are creating a healthier future for everyone.
AMR’s work is driven by medical need, and not influenced by politics or swayed by the pressure to be profitable, which means we are free to fund only the best science.
Since 1952, when the first research funding paved the way for the ‘sugar cube’ vaccine in the UK which crippled polio, AMR has been involved in a remarkable breadth of groundbreaking work.

The Literary Lunch

Tuesday 24th February 2009
Cavalry and Guards Club, 127 Piccadilly (near Park Lane)

Champagne and canapés will be served at 12 noon in the Waterloo and Peninsular Rooms.
At 12.40 guests will be seated at tables for lunch inclusive of wine.

Tickets: £75

The speaker, Lord Patten of Barnes, in his latest book What Next?, tackles the big questions about our global condition and our collective future with a verve and authority no other current commentator can match. Energy, food, water, international crime, weapons proliferation, drug trafficking, climate change, epidemic disease, migration – the challenges facing our world are themselves proliferating rapidly. On each of them, Chris Patten digests vast amounts of information from many different sources and analyses them for the reader using his experience at the highest levels of international politics. Very little in the world, he says, has turned out as we might have expected twenty years ago. But for reasons he explains, he remains an optimist in the face of this formidable agenda.

Joke Corner

Comment from the gentleman who sent us this joke -
'We should undergo the same process for anyone that would otherwise receive an ASBO, people that litter, etc.'

Demands of Kidnapper & Chinese Release Negotiations
Kidnapper screams from open window - 'I have 3 demands or I'll kill the boy!'
Negotiators assess the situation from two windows along

Head Negotiator dispatched on to window ledge (with gun in hand)

Negotiations begin (he shoots kidnapper)
Negotiations concluded (kidnapper falls from window)

Conclusion -
In this country, we would block off the street, take12 hours to talk him out of it, spend £5 million giving him a fair trial, and pay his food and lodging for life. No wonder their products are cheaper than ours!!!!
