Truly -- when theatre was for the ‘boys’

‘Above The Stag Theatre’ presents a very gay adult pantomime -
from the writers of last year's hit Dick Whittington - Another Dick in City Hall.

by Jon Bradfield & Martin Hooper

November 30 - December 22
Tues - Sat 7.30pm; Sun 6.00pm

Tickets £14. First week - £12. Gala press night Wed 1 Dec £20

Box office: 020 8932 4747

Online : www.abovethestag.com (no booking fee)

Chaos ensues as a very gay Robin Hood and his band of merry men descend on Above The Stag in this year's riotous adults only pantomime.

Robin Hood: Scourge of the rich, friend to the poor, champion archer and outlaw (but with a day job as a nurse at Friar Tuck's Sherwood Forest Cottage Hospital).

An evil Sheriff has seized power thanks to a baffling new voting system. Taxes are high, cuts are steep, the rich are getting richer and the poor are in Primark.

But help is at hand - in the shape of champion archer (and part time web-cam performer) Robin Hood!

Join him and his merry band on a quest for justice that takes them to strange encounters in the woods and on to Buckingham Palace itself...

Expect all the usual panto fun (without the s... bits for kids): romance, cross dressing, songs, sweets, and an Israeli donkey.

What the critics said about Dick Whittington - ATS panto 2009

'Very special. The writing is very clever... Beautifully produced and directed... Very highly recommended - just don't take the kids ' - Remotegoat

'A wild and hilarious two-hour production... The script flowed beautifully and was genuinely hilarious. Buy a pint or five, and watch this show.' - Extra Extra

'You know it's childish, but you just can't help riding the wave...lines that will have mulled wine snorting out of your nose.' - QX Magazine

Above The Stag Theatre
15 Bressenden Place
London SW1E 5DD
(directly behind Victoria Palace Theatre - Billy Elliot)
Tube/National rail - Victoria - 100 yards

From ‘forest green’ to country, jazz and blues!!

Monday to Wednesday: Classic jazz
Amongst the regulars and irregulars seen on stage are singers Liz Fletcher, Joan Viskant, Cousin Alice, Georgina Bromilow and Heather Simmons; sax players Alan Barnes, Pete Long and Ray Gelato; trumpeters Rico Tomasso, Mike Henry and Steve Fishwick; pianists Richard Busiakiewicz, Gunther Kuermayer, Keith Nichols, Christian Vaughan and Phil Phillips; bassists Murray Salmon, Jerome Davis and Julie Walkington.

Every Thursday: TJ Johnson & his Band

Backed by his group of top British musicians TJ plays an extraordinary blend of music that transcends the boundaries of jazz, blues, soul, country and gospel and is influenced by the likes of Ray Charles, Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, BB King, Nina Simone, Alberta Hunter, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Witherspoon and many more.

‘One of the most popular on the scene… playing music that goes into warmer and more exotic realms’ (Humphrey Lyttelton – Radio 2)

‘Never fails to get an audience going…TJ Johnson & his band are the best live jazz and rhythm & blues band around. Brilliant.’ – Jack Hepplewhite – (The Jazz Agency)

Every Friday: Reuben Richards & The Soul Train

Reuben is a great singer and showman who brought his band “Soul Train” to Boisdale and wowed the crowd. He’s a dynamite Otis Redding style vocalist whose style is a unique blend of R’n’B, soul, blues and funky jazz.

‘This guy has got it - there is no doubt about it, even the most cursory listen will convince. Definitely a name to watch for’ – Norman Darwen – (Blues in Britain)

‘It’s as good as it gets’ – Emperor Rosko

Every Saturday: Eric Ranzoni

Eric Ranzoni is a piano thumping, blues shouting entertainer who every Saturday presents the finest blues music to be heard this side of the Mississippi and either side of the Thames. In March 2009 Eric toured the UK with Mud Morganfield, the first born son of music legend Muddy Waters whom Eric considers the most naturally dignified and charismatic blues performer ever born.

‘Excellent numbers with menacing left hand rumblings and rolling right hand work, just like Otis Spann’’ – Jim Greaves - (Blues in Britain)

… AFTER DARK
With an ambiance somewhere between a New Orleans dive and a 1950s New York jazz club, the music scene at Boisdale has evolved and the sound of blues and soul now regularly features later in the week.

Our aim is to provide a refuge from the modern world with soul stirring contemporary versions of classic jazz and blues in a warm, eclectic atmosphere in which one can either simply dine or relax at the bar. On which note, Boisdale enjoys one of the most extensive selections of fine wine and premium spirits in the UK, although we are most famous for our award winning range of malt whiskies. For a dram and great live music there is not a finer venue on the planet. For those who enjoy a smoke after dinner and before jazz, our Cigar Terrace is open all day until 11pm Monday to Saturday.

Music timings
The performances take place from 9pm-11pm on Mondays and 10pm – midnight for the rest of the week (Fridays are 10pm – 12.30am).

After 10pm, an optional jazz charge of £4.50 is payable by dining non-members who are already on the premises, whilst an admission charge of £12 is payable by non-members arriving after 10pm and after 11pm the jazz door charge is reduced £6.

Other musical highlights:
Previously featured artists include Paul Jones, George Melly, Georgie Fame, John Colianni, Acker Bilk, Kenny Ball, Judy Carmichael and Mike d’Abo.

Horrified – Electrified

By

Edgar Allan Poe’s

Masque of Red Death

Tuesday 09 November 2010 to Saturday 13 November 2010

A group of strangers are sent an intriguing, blood-red invitation with the simple words 'come and play'. Arriving at the specified location they find the drinks flowing and their host, the enigmatic Mr Reece, convivial. However the party atmosphere soon turns sour when the true reason for the gathering emerges. One by one Reece forces his guests to relive the terrible secrets that have been plaguing them, taking them to the edge of madness. But are there supernatural or human forces at work?

Perfect for a dark and stormy night in November, The Masque of the Red Death is a deliciously macabre portmanteau horror based on the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Darkly comic and full of frights it promises to keep you on the edge of your seat until the twisted and terrifying end. Do you want to come and play?

Another Great Event in support of the

Help for Heroes charity -

An incredible line up of stars will come together on September 12th 2010 for the biggest event of the year and a landmark in the history of entertainment, to mark the nation’s appreciation of our military heroes.

In honour of the service and sacrifice made by men and women for their country, risking everything in the line of duty, some of the biggest names in entertainment are proudly coming together in aid of Britain’s war wounded.

Musicians and comedians are joining forces for the spectacular event that will be broadcast on BBC One.

Robbie Williams, who this year celebrates 20 years in music, will headline the show which also features a cross section of the biggest musical names including Enrique Iglesias, James Blunt, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Alesha Dixon, Katherine Jenkins performing with Spelbound, Plan B, The Saturdays and The Wanted.

The show will be hosted by the cream of the UK’s comedy talent -

John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Jack Dee, Jason Manford and Michael McIntyre have all pledged their support.

Of course, all performers have donated their services free of charge.

Robbie Williams said, “I am honoured to be a part of this show and to help draw attention to the amazing job done by our servicemen and women throughout the world. Their dedication to our country is phenomenal and we are all so proud of them”.

Hundreds of thousands of members of the British public have ‘done their bit’ for Help for Heroes by running races, climbing mountains, baking cakes, shaving their legs and giving the contents of their money box - raising a stunning £59 million to date. Now it is the turn of the music and comedy legends to play their part and help ensure that our Heroes receive the best support that money can buy.

Help for Heroes has united the nation behind the Armed Forces. The charity does not question the rights and wrongs of recent wars, just strives towards providing the best possible care and support for those wounded in the service of our country.

This is not only a fundraising concert, but a statement of appreciation from the UK ‘s entertainment community to our brave young service men and women.

60,000 fans and troops will be at Twickenham Stadium for the show.

The guests of honour will include injured service personnel and their carers who will receive free tickets as a small ‘thank you’ for the sacrifices they have made.

All revenue from the Event, after deduction of Live Nation’s fee together with all costs and expenses directly relating to the hire of the venue and the staging of the Event, will be paid directly to Help for Heroes (Registered Charity Number: 1120920) or to Help for Heroes Trading Limited in support of Help for Heroes. It is expected that Help for Heroes will receive in the region of £750,000 from the Event

The 2010 Jazz Festival, held on Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th September featured fantastic live performances from the following:

PROGRAMME

Thursday 16th September (6pm- 10pm)

Dennis Rollins Badbone & Co
An established reputation as an artist of excellence who is comfortable performing in many styles; jazz, funk and pop.

Alexander Stewart
A voice rooted in Sinatra and Connick with a touch of the Kurt Elling.

Saturday 18th September (1pm -10pm)

Snowboy & his Latin Section
His band has recently been described as "one of the top Latin Jazz acts in the World, alongside Eddie Palmieri and Bobby Sanabria".

Gwyneth Herbert Quartet
Hailed as "brilliantly original" by Mojo, Gwyneth Herbert is at the vanguard for a new generation of young jazz and folk influenced singer-songwriters.

Get the Blessing
This band know how to frame a good melody, and when at their best the band's cool, stylish heat is irresistible.

Trio Manouche with Special Guests
World-class gypsy swing ensemble performing the works of Django Reinhardt and their own up-beat original compositions in the style of Hot Club de France.

Tony Kofi Trio
Kofi plays soprano, alto, and baritone saxophone with equal dexterity and accomplishment; his soprano has a Coltrane-like fluidity; his alto agile and peppery: his baritone dark toned, sonorous and bold.

Sarah Ellen Hughes
Sarah has just released her debut album: "Darning the Dream" on which showcases the kind of material that makes her unique, versatility defies easy categorisation.

Joke Corner –

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny

The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR money i.e. taxes !!

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective -

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion Pounds ago was only 13 hours and 12 minutes,at the rate our government
is spending it !!

Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Income Tax
Vat Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing License Tax
Food License Tax
Fuel Permit Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax
Inventory Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Liquor Tax
Luxury Tax
Marriage License Tax
Property Tax
Real Estate Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Road Usage Tax
Local Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
And our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the largest middle class in the world...
And Mum stayed home to raise the kids

What happened?
'politicians!'

Gordon Brown

and not forgetting Blair of course – he of the mantra

‘things can only get better’ !!!

that's what !!

Big Brother Mission Statement
Big Brother Watch fights injustice and campaigns to protect our civil liberties and personal freedoms.

The British state has accumulated unprecedented power and the instinct of politicians and bureaucrats is to expand their power base even further into areas unknown in peace time.

Big Brother Watch campaigns to re-establish the balance of power between the state and individuals and families.

We look for the sly, slow seizure of control by the state - of power, of information and of our lives.

We advocate the return of our liberties and freedoms and look to ordinary people to join our cause.
