Now for something completely different – a special opportunity to experience
Avantgarde Opera with – Second Movement
Second Movement Reviewed by -
Opera Triple Bill: Michael Tanner
‘Second Movement is a young opera company which gives singers who have graduated from their college - but are not yet on the opera house circuit - a chance to demonstrate their gifts and in unusual repertoire. Since standards at Second Movement are evidently very high, it also gives enterprising opera goers, supposing they manage to spot one of the company’s rare and unobtrusive adverts, an opportunity to see things they might easily spend a lifetime without encountering.’
As we are privileged to receive Second Movement’s ‘rare and unobtrusive’ adverts – we take great pleasure on passing details of these very unusual events to You -
‘Second Movement is pleased to announce the dates of our American Triple Bill. The performance will run from Wednesday 22 October to Saturday 25 October 2008, at 7.30pm, at Hoxton Hall , 130 Hoxton Street, London N1 6SH.

The works have a common theme of suburban life in the United States. For our American Triple Bill, Second Movement has commissioned our first original work, an opera by two young US artists, composer Stefan Weisman and librettist David Cote, entitled Fade. The other two works are a revival of one of our most acclaimed productions, Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti, and a new production of Samuel Barber's A Hand of Bridge.

As part of Second Movements’ mission to make opera accessible to all ticket prices are low - £20 full price, and £15.00 for concessions. For more information and to book go to: http://www.secondmovement.org.uk/

We would be so interested to know if you do go to this event - please drop us an email if you do – either with a comment or just ‘Second Movement’ – to: sandra@icefiremarketing.com

Champagne–Champagne – Champagne – Champagne – Champagne–Champagne
Can YOU sabrage ?? OR as known to the cognoscenti - knocking a champagne cork out of a bottle with a Sword (Sabre)?
If you love champagne, have never attempted a sabrage – BUT would love to try – Come Join Us at the – Confrerie du Sabre d’Or Ball – icefire4sandra@aol.com
Firstly – just a little about the -

Welcome to the home of sabrage
The Confrérie du Sabre d'Or is devoted to promoting the act of Sabrage and the enjoyment of Champagne. The Heart of the Order is the growing number of Caveaux de Sabrage where Sabrage may be performed. The Caveaux range from small restaurants and Wine Bars to the grandest of Hotels. They all have two things in common - Champagne and fun. This is a wine and far too good to be left only to special occasions.

A programme of events throughout the year held at prestigious venues gives all our members and their guests excellent value for money and plenty of opportunity for Sabrage as well as enjoying excellent Champagne and food.

We welcome the opportunity of introducing you to the Confrérie and the fun of Sabrage.

Art of Sabrage
It can seem daunting when you are initially handed a sabre and a chilled bottle of Champagne with the expectation that you will sever the top of the bottle with the sword’s blade. Do not be downhearted! No-one has ever failed and all it needs is a firm wrist with a high elbow and you’ll be back at your table regaling your fellow guests with tales of how easy it really was.

When performed on a suitably chilled bottle of Champagne, the cork and glass annulus fly away, spilling little of the precious wine. The pressure of the Champagne always ensures that no glass falls back into the bottle. Today, the Maître-Sabreur is always there to make sure safety is observed, and the cork flies away from spectators.
